Earlier this school year, I had someone tell me a definition of introvert and extrovert in a way that I had never thought of before. The explanation went that an introvert recharges via their alone time and extrovert recharges via group time. I would count myself a very hard introvert and this makes teaching and coaching extra draining. I truly value my planning time as a recharge time and really struggle when my planning is taken with testing or other things.
This school year has been more draining than past years because I have found myself more and more involved in activities thus reducing my recharge time. My hope is that over the summer I can recharge and do a better job of managing my time to make sure I am at my best. This will be especially important when my son is born around the start of next school year. So over the next few days, think about how you recharge and get ready to tackle the day; is it alone time or group time?
